SC-230 – Airborne Weather Detection Systems, established December 18, 2013, is developing recommendations for an advisory circular for airworthiness approval for aircraft weather radar systems. In 2015, the group completed updates of DO-220 for the minimum operational performance standards for aircraft weather radar equipment and DO-213 for minimum operational performance standards for nose-mounted radomes. In 2016, the group completed an interim report on recommendation on the feasibility to standardize In-Flight Radar Long Range Ice Crystals Weather Awareness Function. This report led to a recommendation to develop  minimum aviation system performance standards for weather radar detection of ice crystal conditions.
