SC-135, Environmental Testing, established October 1, 1977, continues to maintain RTCA DO-160 (current version is DO-160G), Environmental Conditions and Test Procedures for Airborne Equipment. This document is the international de facto standard for environmental testing of commercial avionics and provides standard procedures and environmental test criteria for testing airborne equipment to determine their performance characteristics. DO-160G was published in December 2010, and an update of the Users’ Guide material for this document is in development, with the aim of providing rationales, guidance and background information for the environmental, test procedures and requirements, as well as lessons learned from aircraft and laboratory experience.
