RTCA Special Committee 206 and EUROCAE Working Group 76 have published DO-364A/ED-335, the “Minimum Aviation Systems Performance Standard (MASPS) for AIS/MET Data Link Services.” This Standard contained requirements for 11 services used for the exchange of AIS and meteorological information. One of the services is the Emergency Diversion Service (EDS).
As described in DO-364A/ED-335, the EDS will provide a minimum set of AI/MET Information necessary to assist in an emergency situation in which the safety of the aircraft or of persons onboard or on the ground is endangered for any reason. These may include such emergencies as rapid decompression, severe medical emergencies, mechanical failures, etc. An emergency situation may result in it being impossible to continue the flight to the destination as planned, resulting in one or more of the following outcomes (non-exhaustive list):
- loss of altitude,
- diversion to a nearby aerodrome,
- forced landing,
- response of law, or emergency personnel.
RTCA and EUROCAE are interested in gauging industry interest in participating in an activity within the already existing RTCA Special Committee SC-206 and EUROCAE Working Group WG-76 to develop a Minimum Operational Performance Standard (MOPS) for the EDS. This MOPS will detail the requirements for the implementation of the Service.
SC-206/WG-76 is looking for experts in particular, but not limited to, in the following areas:
- Airlines
- Airline Operation Centers
- Air Navigation Service Providers
- Airports
- Airport Emergency Service Providers
- Aircraft Manufacturers
- Avionics Manufacturers
- Data link Service Providers
If you are interested in this activity and would like to contribute to a study group, please provide your input to Rebecca Morrison.
Please note that in addition to active participation in the activity, we are also seeking someone to lead the activities of the group. Please indicate your interest accordingly when emailing Ms. Morrison.
