SC-186, Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B), established February 1, 1995, is developing operational requirements and minimum performance standards for airborne and ground user applications of ADS-B. Over 70 ADS-B operational capabilities have been identified that could provide enhanced safety, increased capacity and improved efficiency. The committee has begun defining the Operational Services & Environment Description that will support minimum standards for ADS-B use in Flight Interval Management operations, due in 2018.
In addition, the SC-186 has joined with SC-209 (ATCRBS and Mode S Transponder) and EUROCAE WG 51 and WG-49 to form a super-group, the goal of which is to increase communication across the membership of committees developing standards for surveillance.
