2019 Symposium Session Videos

Welcome and Opening Ceremony A panel of insiders and political observers assess key issues being considered in the comprehensive bill RTCA President and CEO Terry McVenes shares an overview of the Symposium.
Keynote: Boom Supersonic with Blake Scholl Think about the world 50 years ago. In 1969, computers were the size of refrigerators, cars didn’t have airbags, and jet airliners cruised at 600 mph. Today, a computer a million times better fits in your pocket, your car can almost drive itself, and flights have gotten...slower? There are no technological barriers preventing passengers from breaking the sound barrier. Boom shares how they are leading the effort to make the world dramatically more accessible through faster flight.
Supersonic Transportation Innovations What must be done in the coming years to return supersonic aviation travel back into the airspace?  Chief among concerns is the noise profile and economical operations.  This panel explores innovations that are bringing supersonic travel back to aviation.
Overcoming Barriers to UAS Integration Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) have seen unprecedented levels of growth during the last decade in both military and civilian domains, however, many recent events have highlighted the potential safety impact of introducing drone operations into the nation’s airspace. As the number of UAS operating in domestic airspace increases, safety risks will persist until FAA establishes performance, air traffic control, and certification standards to regulate UAS use. To meet its goals to safely integrate UAS, our community must collaborate to establish these standards and adhere to a comprehensive integration plan with other public and private stakeholders. This panel of experts from across aviation discusses the barriers to safe integration of UAS in the NAS and includes inviting new entrant industry representation to participate and improve the dialog and understanding of this rapidly growing segment of aviation.

EUROCAE Perspectives

Learn what European industry is developing for aviation standards, how they are aligned with US standards and where they differ.
Electric/Hybrid Planes, and eVTOL Vehicles: Building Future Air Mobility - Today On-demand air mobility is predicted to offer an innovative and cost-effective solution to ever-growing transportation challenges, including—but not limited to—crowding in urban environments. This panel discusses the development of on-demand air mobility vehicles, effective operations, implementation strategies, and standards requirements.
Rules of the Sky: Fostering and Regulating On-Demand Air Mobility FAA’s mission is to provide the safest, most efficient aerospace system in the world. The first ‘A” in NASA is “Aeronautics”. On-demand air mobility offers enormous opportunities to advance the safety and efficacy of transportation, but also presents significant challenges. This panel discusses the agency’s approach to enable the future of aviation and its expectations for the aviation industry as well as the role of standards development.
Closing Remarks RTCA President and CEO Terry McVenes summarizes the Symposium.
