Free Flight Select Committee

The Free Flight Select Committee was established to provide staff support to the Free Flight Steering Committee. In this role the Select Committee accepts tasking from the Steering Committee to assist in fulfilling the Steering Committee’s objectives:

To establish an agreed-to implementation strategy and milestones,
To periodically review government and industry progress in meeting implementation commitments via the use of appropriate metrics,
To identify new free flight implementation opportunities as well as events/situations that are inhibiting progress and review actions that are taken.

The Free Flight Select Committee also assists the Steering Committee in developing consensus on:

The single integrated Government/Industry Operations Concept that complements the objectives of the Free Flight Implementation Report,

The architecture necessary for implementing that operational concept,

Any evolutionary changes to the operations concept and architecture, and

CNS/ATM system-level operational requirements to assure complementary performance characteristics and implementation dates.

Select Committee deliberations represent work in progress. Completed Select Committee work is presented to the Free Flight Steering Committee for consideration at the public Steering Committee meetings. If the Steering Committee concurs in Select Committee proposals / products, these may be forwarded to the FAA as recommendations. The FAA may accept, modify, or reject these recommendations.

The Free Flight Select Committee does not function as a Federal Advisory Committee and Select Committee meetings are not open to the public.
