The Tactical Operations Committee (TOC) recently met and considered two issues affecting operations in the National Airspace System (NAS).
The TOC approved a report which compiled operator comments and concerns regarding a proposal from Ligado Networks for ground-based transmissions on the band adjacent to GPS. Ligado’s proposal calls for cylinders around their transmitters within which GPS may be unreliable. Operators documented their concerns about the impact of these cylinders on flight operations and also commended Ligado for their engagement with the FAA and industry.
The TOC also approved a recommendation focused on improving Graphical Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) in the NAS. The report addresses a comprehensive set of issues around TFRs including charting, generation, dissemination, use and legality, education to operators, etc.
The TOC is led by Co-Chairs Bryan Quigley of United Airlines and Dale Wright of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association, with Elizabeth “Lynn” Ray, Vice President Mission Support, Air Traffic Organization, FAA, serving as the Designated Federal Official.
